  2. Because, when readers are able to identify literary devices in a reading, they can understand it better, as well as the different intentions that the author had at the moment of writing. So this literary devices constitute an important tool for readers to develop the analyzing and understanding process of the reading in a more effective way.

    1. Excellent comment, Geraldine... Now, I want you to tell me which literary devices you can see in the fragment of poetry below:
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace

I love thee to the level of everyday's

Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.

  5. I think they are important because the reader can understand and comprehend what the writer wants to transmit. Literary devices help them to appreciate, interpret and analyze a literary work in a better way.

He is with her; and they know that I know

Where they are, what they do: they believe my tears flow

While they laugh, laugh at me, at me fled to the drear

Empty church, to pray God in, for them! -- I am here.

    1. Ok, María A... Now, I want you to tell me which literary devices you can see in the excerpt below:
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,

Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,

As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.''

Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -

      Only this, and nothing more.'

  7. Greetings. First of all, the devices give special characteristics to all the surface texts in literature, not all the writers have the same aim or purpose. Due to it, those terms or as they are called literature devices, give certain characteristics to specific kind of texts, tales, poems or short stories.
As none of the writers have the same purpose as mentioned before, the readers need some clues or maybe keys, that may help them to figure out what the text is about, but not to infer what the surface of it expresses, but to the framework, it means, to know what the writer wanted to expresses with certain words in specific contexts, in other words, to feel the same affection that the writer had while he or she was writing down what is called "literature" in a page.

That's why they are important I assert.

    1. Very good, Luis. Now, I want you to tell me which literary devices you can see in the fragment of poetry below:
In days of old there lived, of mighty fame,

      A valiant Prince, and Theseus was his name;

A chief, who more in feats of arms excelled,

The rising nor the setting sun beheld.

Of Athens he was lord; much land he won,

And added foreign countries to his crown.

  8. I see Inversion, description, figurative language, Metonomy and rhythm.

INVERSION:"Theseus was his name", "Of Athens he was lord".

    DESCRIPTION: "A valiant Prince".

FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE, METONOMY: "added foreign countries to his crown". (I think the are pretty the same, let me know if I'm wrong teacher).

    RHYTHM: The whole poetry.

    Greetings!

  11. I think literary devices are important because Those are the intentions that writter has to be be understood by the reader. it means that readers must catch and analize by themselves what the writter wants to express using differents tools.

  12. Well, literary devices are all those phenomenons that an author or writer try to add to their writing, most of the time in an unconscious way, and they are important since through these, we can not only see, but maybe feel, all those thoughts and sensations that he or she wants to comunicate to the readers, making them identifiying and feeling part of the story...

  13. Also i think most of the commentaries of my partners are pretty good and accord to their pieces of poetry... It maybe difficult to identify every single one of the literary devices unless you have practiced this for a long time due to the complexity that these literary devices may present, so there are not correct, or perfect answers in these cases, it depends on each one point of view...

  15. As second language learners, we are constantly listening, speaking, writing as well as reading with the purpose of improving each skill, but, It is true that some of us don’t like to read, that’s why writers try to create an special effect in their product in order to make a piece of poetry or prose enjoyable to some specific audience. Therefore, literary devices take an important place, due to the influence they may have in the reader, that is to say, they can allow him/her to understand the intention of the writer, either entertaining or boring, also this can vary depending of the style writer may have or the literary devices he/she decides to use.

  16. Because they allow you to identify different aspects of a piece of literature which means that you can understand and comprehend it and you can even be able to produce the differents types of literature. That's mainly why literature is important to me.

  17. Literary devices are really important because the reader can know and understand, in a better way, the different stories that you can find. So thanks to these elements you can also identify each story and have a clear idea of what they are about.
