  2. For reading any kind of book or text it is necessary to know some literary devices, because it can be easier for understanding; for example if we read about some word that is symbolic, it means use something as a place or something... (Black is used to represent death or evil) the color black in this case is “symbolic”. So if we do not know that it is symbolic we can think that it is forbidden to wear black clothes, that is why literary devices are very important at the time to analyze a text, because maybe most of people have the ability to read texts but not all people can analyze it in the correct way taking into account that reading involve many aspects (terms) in relation to literature.

  3. It is important to know that literary texts have many purposes, for example if we talk about romance we need to emphasize what we can express... for example some times to say “you are beautiful” is not enough or do not sound so romantic, so for being more exaggerated he/she can say ( your eyes are like pearls and you are my precious diamond) this example is an exaggeration and we can find two literary terms such as simile and metaphor, so here we can see that the purpose of the writer is to express the beauty of someone; and touch the deepest feelings of him/her, but using other kind of words not a simple word. On the other hand we know that he/she is not a diamond or have pearls in his/her ayes but it can impact his/her emotions or feelings.

  4. Literature is magical. It is future, past. present, fantasy, romance, reality, mystery, entertainment, poem, novel, short story and so on. In a word, it is everything. But there are some elements, which are common to all of them and make literature different than scientific discourse:the literature devices. These devices are like "bridges" between what is written and the reader; since through all of them , the understanding of words, frases, or whole story it is possible. If someone wants to understand a novel, he/she must know what plot, climax, methafor, antagonist, among others are. Another example; if someone wants to understand what a song is about, it would be good for him to know what are metonymy and allliteration. So, the conclusion is clear; literature is written in a special discourse ( the one that uses literary devices ) and to understand that discourse, the reader or listener must know what all those devices are about.

  5. I am in agreement, Ender! Literature is not only magical is something that can open people´s mind in relation to the creativity, imagination, and it also causes an effect in their feelings; but as you said previously it is necessary that the reader knows the literature devises you mentioned; for understanding, inferring, imagining, and introducing himself/herself in the text. (When introducing in the text she/he can feels identified with the characters, maybe with the author or simply with the situation either from a novel, song poem and so on.

  6. If someone is enthusiastic about readings he/she must know the literature devises and not only has the knowledge but also recognize and identified it; so this kind of readers have more advantage that those readers who do not know nothing about literature devises; because they can develop the writing skill related to poems, novels, songs, verses and so on… this knowledge acquired and learned in readings either about literary terms, vocabulary and key words like romance, love, hate, peace etc… can help them to write using their imagination, passion, love, and fury more fluently.

  7. Hey María ¡ Did you say identity ? That's it . You've got it. That's what I was missing. Literary devices give IDENTITY to all the literary genres and make them different to the scientific discourses, vulgar , or familiar. I do not remember any poem without rhyme or rhythm, metaphor or any other literary device. Do you ?. If a poem does not have any of these , I would say that it is a news, comment or other "thing" but not a poem. Therefore, the reader must know the "elements of identity" ( literary devices ) that are in the writing for him/her in order to enjoy and undertand.

  8. Hi Ender, I have never read a poem without any literary device; those are that give sense to it, and make the reader differentiate a poem from another kind of text. So each literary text has its own characteristic which is different to another, for example a poem is “rhythmical and display beauty” a song is “a rhythmical composition and must have melody” so all this is literature and the reader that is interested in reading literary texts must be aware that it is important and necessary to know all literary devises; for understanding and as you said for enjoying it at all. On the other hand, although a song is different to a poem they are close related because they can express passion, love, tenderness, melancholia, and some others emotions and feelings. In addition, songs and poems can have metaphors, simile, and rhyme but there are some aspects that make them different. Ender! Do you think that a poem can change into a song? Tell me, why? And tell me, if you would not know literary devices, could you recognize the difference between the lyric of a song and the lyric of a poem?
