Literary Terms

Is it important to learn about literary terms? Why?

16 comentarios:

  1. Of course! I consider that is very important to get bit knowledge about literary terms. Now well, I say it because I'm a single student in this subject and it is necessary for being with whole senses to learn about how English Literature has evolved from last centuries, as well as the authors and what they want to express with their books.

In other hand, taking into account the last question and carrying it beyond class, I mean go out classrooms; I think that people should have a minimal knowledge about these literary terms. If we make a deep investigation, we could notice that there are much people who likes to read novels, so they may know about what they read but unknowing what is behind them, as I said before: the authors, their lives, their poems, even their books and of course, I'm sure people should not difference about a haiku of single poem.

    2. I share Freddys's opinion because literary terms become really important in our learning in the way of knowing the evolution of literature from before till now. On the other hand, The literary terms are very important because through them we can enjoy and understand better any kind of reading. They give some kind of orientation to the reader about the nature of text and author's feeling respect to his work.

  2. Hi! I agree with fredy in some aspects related in literature, because this terms help us in reading to identify or know what the author want to say or in which way he/she describe different situations involved in stories.

  5. Hello again, thanks teacher, well done Freddys!!
I really do not have any favorite term yet, but I consider "characterization" is one of the most important term in a story, because it show a description in term of perception about what can we wait into story and how it will be develop, beside this, the "conflict" used in all stories this term make us take a position in reading... well I have to say that if an author know how use, mix and combine all literary terms the result would be extraordinary. even if readers were unaware of existence of these terms.

  7. I am in agreement with Morvelis in the aspect that I do not have a favorite literary term… however, as I have the opportunity of sellecting one of them, I select “imagery”, because it explains that a poet uses it in poems to appeal to our senses… so, in this way, our motivation would be better if we know how to use “imagery” at the time of reading any poem, because it is gonna help our imagination to comprenhend the reading in a easy way… I mean, if you are reading a love story, you can imagine the landscapes, sounds, flavours, sensations and smells of anything that is being described in the story…
On the other hand, is important to point out that it doesn´t matter if we prefer one literary term, because the most relevant thing is that we as future english teachers should handle all literary terms in order to comprenhend and assimilate what is being read.

  8. Besides, I would like to make a special enphasys in the importance of analysing literary terms, because once we know them and the function they accomplish, is going to be easier and faster for us to understand what the author wanted to express in a determined story… in this way, our reading process would be succesful, since we will learn new vocabulary and expressions that maybe we didn´t now what was their thecnical explanation.

  9. Well dear friends, after reading all your comments I realized that as you; I have not preference for any literary term yet.
Each one of them are very important in a story, but if we talk about literary genres, I prefer to read about real or unreal stories like science fiction, fairy tales and so on, where the plot is full of mystery and action.
I think in all these things, we can notice how they do really make any kind of reader captures his/her attention immediately. However, I would want to stress that there is nothing so unique that a good plot.
When somebody tries to get closer to the story being told by someone else and gets involved with the characters, the events and actions; he/she has the opportunity -let's say it like this- to live at first hand what happens inside it, so at the end, the feelings and emotion's readers make them true critics of literature they read to.
