    1. I consider that the treatment to the women in the Color Purple is because of both aspects already mentioned. First of all, White people, especially men treat bad to black people, especially women because of the gender.. They think that black people have to be their slaves just because they have a different color.
On the other hand, it also has to do with an ethnic identity issue, because many years ago peaple saw the black ones as servants, slaves and without right to do nothing, , only working, working and more work. So, it is evident that there is a separation of two social classes where blanck people are weak and the white ones hace the power, even to control them. That`s my personal opinion.

    2. Hi! Correct me if I´m wrong, but in this case, both, novel and movie are not about the diffferences of color or slave, in fact most of them have the same color, rather it is the genre difference, for example, Celie´s fathers treats her like trash, because she is female, even, he doesn´t sees her as his daughter. beside this most men treat women badly

  2. Well, this is an interesting question because I have thought last days the same question, so I have seen myself forced to research about two things very important to understand the novel.
Thus, we must set us in the place where "Celie" (the principal character) is living to. It is early 19th century and in the United States something is happening. There is a controvesial moment for the society who is divide into two social clases which are: black and white people. To this adds the rol who a woman plays over the world. In the other hand those considerations let us to point out that women are not treated well because of these aspects. Even though slave age have finished for those times, white man has the control into the societies who are in develop to, but in the same way, black man bring to bear a kind of power on women into their ethnic groups. So this is an hint to understand all the plot that alice walker try to say us to write this book.

  4. I agree with my classmate, because I had the same question to think about. He speaks about "setting into Celie`s place", "two social classes divided", "slaves" and "power", but in this case, I think that it is evident that the main point is "the division of social classes", I mean, since the past and even nowadays,, white people have not treated well black women because they don`t belong to the same social class, they just take into account: money, beauty, color and power, and black people don`t have that and that`s the reason why they have to resist that situation. So my point of view is that the problem is social and I support Freddy`s comment adding the comment written above by me.

  5. Hello again... well guys, I still disagree with you, but from my point of view jejejej. I think Lileny is right when she says about people role, but in this story men vs women, so in general terms I think the problem that women are not treated well are both, ethnic identity and genre. Because, women were like objects, only to care child, clean house, make food, take care and do whatever the men want.

  6. If we are in agreement about the purple color novel the matter of women are not treated well Is owing to gender and an ethnic identity issue, I cannot understan what do you disagree dear Morvelys. I think you should be more specific about this issue in order for me to get what you are reffering to.

By other hand, I would like to know what do you think about the relationship between Celie and Shug Avery? What do you think Walker wanted to express to write about a situation like this in her novel?
    (I hear some comments)

    1. I don`t like the fact of shug and Celie be lovers, I dissagree with that relationship. I think that Walker wanted to express with that situation was that shug to fill Celie`s empty space, since Celie hadn`t had a pleasant sexual relationship with any man.

  7. Hello, well my dear friend Freddys, I´ll tell you what I thought when I read what you wrote, You talk about racism and slavery, and also about the division of social classes, although this is an important part of story, for me, it is not the principal cause, the real problem originates within their own groups, the same class. where men were raised as superior, while women as a mule, even white men were more than their wife, in those days women couldn´t think, just men can decide about what can or not women do. So I thought you think the main problem was the social clases, but now I know we are agree...

  8. Ok, the relationship between Celie and Shug...I think walker wants to show us differents form of behavior outside of the traditionals, like Lileny said, maybe because Celie didn´t know the love through the opposite sex, but when she saw the picture of Shug,Celie immediately felt something different. So, why not show this, if you can express that finally Celie known how love is... in a world where men dominated, only women known how they feel.
